NON-DISCRIMINATION PLEDGE
The recruitment, selection, employment, and training of apprentices during their apprenticeship shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex age, creed, handicap, marital status, ancestry, sexual orientation, arrest record, conviction record, or membership in the military forces of the United States or this state.

APPLICANT INFORMATION
-Sprinkler fitters are pipefitting specialists in fire protection. They install, repair, and maintain all types of fixed extinguishing systems. While most of this work deals directly with automatic sprinkler systems they also have the skills necessary to install and service a wide variety of other fire protection equipment such as standpipes, carbon dioxide systems, FM200 systems, foam systems and dry chemical systems.
-If you should become a member of the Local 183 Joint Apprenticeship Program the facts of life are that you:
(A) Are under the jurisdiction and control of the Milwaukee Area Sprinkler Fitting Joint Apprenticeship Committee and assigned to a contractor for training.
(B) Must complete a 5 Year apprenticeship consisting of 4 years in the related training program, and the approved night school welding classes.
(C) Must perform satisfactorily both on the job and in the Related Training Program. Unsatisfactory progress in either area can result in termination of your apprenticeship.
(D) Must travel to the job location.
(E) Are required to work both inside and outdoors. The job can vary from working in a trench 8 feet below the grade level to working 100 feet or higher above the floor. The majority of the work is done 10 to 20 feet off the floor.
(F) Will work with overhead piping normally ranging in size from 1 inch to 8 inches and with underground pipe normally between 4 inches and 16 inches in size.
(G) Will receive a starting wage as established by The Collective Bargaining Agreement between Local 183 and the National Fire Sprinkler Association, Inc. Those performing satisfactorily will receive an increase based on a percentage of the Journeyman’s rate every six months.
(H) Will become eligible for Health and Welfare benefits for yourself and your immediate family on the first day of the calendar month following your completion of 600 hours work in the trade. Your employer will also make contributions into a fund to cover most of the cost of your education and, upon completion of Class 2 Apprenticeship, will begin payments on your pension.
REQUIREMENTS:
-To make application for entry into the Local 183 Joint Apprenticeship Program you must:
(A) Apply in person at Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 183, at W175 N5700 Technology Dr. (aprox. 175th & Silver Spring Dr.), Menomonee Falls, WI. Open Applications are held quarterly on the third Monday of January, April, July, and October between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Call the local 183 office to verify the time and date. (B) Provide Local 183 with the following documents:
-A copy of your birth certificate showing that you are not less than 17 years age.
-A copy of your high school diploma or high school equivalency (G.E.D.) certificate.
-High School Transcripts or high school equivalency (G.E.D.) test scores.
-A copy of your Military Discharge Form (DD-214), if applicable.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
(A)After the Application has been completed, and all of the above requirements have been satisfied, the applicant will receive a sponsorship letter to take the Accuplacer Testing at MATC.
(B)Once all of the tests have been passed, the applicant will be notified by mail to appear before The Milwaukee Area Sprinkler Fitting Joint Apprenticeship Committee for an interview. Interviews are held in April and October.
(C)The interview score is combined with the test scores and this total score determines where the applicant is placed on the waiting list.
(D)As Contractors submit requests for apprentices, applicants are pulled from the top of the list.
(E)An applicant is required to pass a drug-screening test upon entry into the program.
Apprentice School Schedule
Starting time for class is 7:30 a.m. unless notified otherwise by your instructor.
Be certain your tuition is paid before the first class or you will be denied entry.
